Gourmet chocolate covered popcorn is a fun and interesting treat to serve on your next movie night. Of course, you don’t
have to wait until movie night to enjoy gourmet chocolate covered popcorn. Almost any occasion will do. You should note,
gourmet chocolate covered popcorn is a little bit more involved to make than most other gourmet chocolate covered recipes
featured here (such as,
Gourmet Chocolate Covered Strawberries).
When making gourmet chocolate covered popcorn, the most important step is to pick a good gourmet chocolate. It’s the
heart and soul of gourmet chocolate covered popcorn. Any type of gourmet chocolate will do (milk chocolate, dark
chocolate, white chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate, sweet chocolate, or bitter sweet chocolate). However, semi-sweet
gourmet chocolate is probably the most common. Six ounces of gourmet chocolate will make six to eight cups of gourmet
chocolate covered popcorn.
The next step when making gourmet chocolate covered popcorn is to pop the popcorn. Once it’s done, pre-heat the
oven to 250 degrees and place the popped corn in a large roasting pan.
This is where things get just a little a bit complicated. With other chocolate covered treats (like gourmet
chocolate covered pretzels) you simply melt the chocolate. But, with gourmet chocolate covered popcorn the
process is a bit more involved. In a medium sized sauce add one cup of sugar, half of a cup of corn syrup,
a tablespoon of salt and two tablespoons of butter. Heat on medium and stir constantly until the mixture boils.
Stir in the chopped gourmet chocolate and continue stirring and cooking until the gourmet chocolate is completely
melted and the mixture becomes very thick. Remove the melted gourmet chocolate from the heat and stir in two
teaspoons of vanilla extract.
The next step in making gourmet chocolate covered popcorn is to pour the melted gourmet chocolate syrup over
the popcorn. Be sure to stir the gourmet chocolate covered popcorn around so they get coated evenly. Then, place
the pan in the oven and bake the gourmet chocolate covered popcorn for about an hour, stirring occasionally.
Once done, place the gourmet chocolate covered popcorn on a large cookie sheet which has been lined with aluminum
foil (for best results, use a nonstick cooking spray as well). You can store your homemade gourmet chocolate
covered popcorn in plastic Ziploc bags to keep it fresh.
Gourmet chocolate covered popcorn is wonderfully addictive treat to enjoy the next time you want to have
something a little bit special. If you want something extra special, try adding roasted almonds, peanuts,
cashews, or some other type of nut to the pan before baking homemade gourmet chocolate covered popcorn.
Of course, you could always just save yourself the trouble and buy gourmet chocolate covered popcorn online.
