Gourmet Chocolate Covered Apples

Gourmet chocolate covered apples are a treat that dates back many years. Although no one seems to know exactly when the tradition started, one thing is certain. Gourmet chocolate covered apples are a treat the entire family can enjoy. And while there may be healthier snacks out there, gourmet chocolate covered apples are a somewhat healthy snack food.

Semi-sweet gourmet chocolate is probably the most popular choice of when making gourmet chocolate covered apples but any type of gourmet chocolate will do (milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, sweet chocolate, or bitter sweet chocolate). You may be tempted to get “dipping chocolate” but these are often made with less-than gourmet quality chocolates.

Of course, in order to make gourmet chocolate covered apples you will be needing apples. For this recipe, you will need five medium sized apples which have been washed and well dried. The most popular type of apple to use when making gourmet chocolate covered apples is red apples but don’t overlook green apples. The sour flavor of green apples often blends very well with gourmet chocolate. White gourmet chocolate in particular is a popular choice when using green apples to make gourmet chocolate covered apples.

Now, you have a choice. One thing many people do not realize is that gourmet chocolate covered apples are often made with more caramel than chocolate. To make this recipe, you will not need much (if any) caramel. If you wish to make your gourmet chocolate covered apples with caramel, just substitute the gourmet chocolate with caramel. Otherwise, you will need about fourteen ounces of gourmet chocolate to make five gourmet chocolate covered apples.

For the next step in making gourmet chocolate covered apples, we need five Popsicle sticks. Remove the stems from the apples and use a small paring knife to make a slit in the top of the apples where the stems used to be. Now, slide a Popsicle stick into the top of each apple. Slide each stick in about one inch deep. This should be enough to support the apples. Be sure to test each of your soon-to-be gourmet chocolate covered apples as you do not want the stick to come out when you are dipping them.
